MARFAN SYNDROME RESOURCE GUIDE
BY DANIEL ROWE FOR SPED605 AT TOWSON UNIVERSITY
So, what is Marfan syndrome?
Marfan syndrome "is a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue. Connective tissue holds all the body’s cells, organs and tissue together. It also plays an important role in helping the body grow and develop properly" (The Marfan Foundation, 2014).
This website was created to provide information for people and their families who are affected by Marfan syndrome, as well as highlight resources and research about the disorder, as well as link families to support groups and communities both locally, and around the world.
The video below depicts former NBA prospect Isaiah Austin, who had his dream of playing in the NBA taken away from him after a Marfan syndrome diagnosis, being drafted by the NBA as a way to help him achieve part of his dream, and speaking about his sudden diagnosis.
